Why Enhancing Memory Requires Use Of Rehearsal Strategies

By Kimberly Green

Teaching is indeed one of the oldest professions in the world. Different teachers have different approaches that they use in teaching. Even though they prefer to physically interact with their students in classrooms, some use technology to teach the same information. They include online platforms and live video conferences. No matter which method works for you, it is important to instill knowledge in students at the end of it all. In fact, most teachers prefer to use rehearsal strategies as their method for teaching.

This case involves repeating of information that has already been presented to you for learning purposes. It can be a list or a diagram that will help you to memorize all the information. Your teacher may read the words out loud or sub vocalize it so that the students can repeat after him/her. Whenever the student repeats what is being said, his/her memory become improved. In any ideal situation, you will find it appropriate if you want to master your social security number or combination to locks.

Attaching a song to a new concept is the best way to go about it. This works for kids in kindergartens whenever they are taught to master the alphabets. Instead of reading it aloud, they are asked to sing. In other cases, involving body movements and gestures can also work for your benefit.

Mastering information solely depends on your ability to put numbers or words in a certain order. For instance, if you are asked to state the last four digits of your social security number, you will be forced to interconnect the first ones to it. That is a good way of doing this. Some people work better in quiet places in comparison to others that can work in places that play loud music.

You may have been alert in class but as soon as you stepped out, everything became a blur. To prevent this from happening in future, you need to conduct a review on everything you have learned. Learn to practice it every day until it is permanently stored in brain.

There is a fine line between understanding and remembering. Each subject uses specific methodologies. Therefore, understanding certain subjects will work for your benefit since examiners have tricky ways of twisting their questions. A student that has crammed the formula may not be in a position to interpret it even after reading it twice.

Short term memory is inevitable in certain students. They need to use certain tricks to install information in their brains. It is important to take notes, highlight and underline the main points to help you in remembering all the details. Once you have done so, it is mandatory for you to summarize what you have understood.

Different learning techniques may work for specific students. However, it is important for tutors to learn to use different approaches so that all students can benefit. Those who lack the ability to store information in their brain for long need to use written materials or to highlight important points that are easy to remember.
