Knowing Good Science Fiction Music

By Brenda Burns

There are many people around the globe who enjoy listening to lyrics which are associated with a variety of movies. Tucson AZ residents know that science fiction music plays a major role within each film that is released. "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" "Jurassic Park" "ET" "Star Wars" and "Logan's Run" all have great sounds associated with them. A film by Ridley Scott named "Prometheus" also came with a great soundtrack.

Many people have gone to see all three of the previous "Star Wars" films which were made decades ago. These were very popular movies which featured great actors who have been around for a very long time. John Williams is the original composer for all of these movies and he has done some great work for television as well.

Williams is also known for arranging tunes for "ET" which deals with a space alien who lands on the planet Earth. The young man within this movie befriends our little weird alien who has a taste for peanut butter candy. The musical score in this movie is very sweet and appeals to every young person around the globe. Mr. Williams shows how human emotions can play a really big role when it comes to creating tunes.

Steven Speilberg and George Lucas have always reached out to John Williams when they want to create new and exciting characters in a film. When it was time for "Raiders of The Lost Ark" to obtain a theme these men contacted Mr. Williams immediately. He was able to put together a simple sound which would always be associated with this particular movie. Luckily the films star Harrison Ford also loved John's work.

Composer Richard Gibbs joined Bear McCreary to create an unusual sound for the "Battlestar Galactica" series which was on television for one season in 1978. This television event returned in 2004 with new actors who took over the roles of characters from the past.

"Logan's Run" dealt with young people who were put to death on their thirtieth birthday in a very weird society. Jerry Goldsmith composed the haunting theme to this futuristic film which frightened many small children. The theme has a fascinating sound which goes from silent to loud very quickly.

Many people were afraid of the creatures that populated the film "Aliens." James Cameron knew that he had a hit film while creating this motion picture during the 80's. He had picked up from the original film with the same characters who were space explorers. James Horner was in charge of many tunes which were involved within this film. Luckily every sound proved to be award winning to critics everywhere.

Every person living within the United States has seen the movie "Jurassic Park" and it was a big hit over twenty years ago. The dinosaurs were awesome animals who caused terror for each individual who lived at a certain location. The very talented John Williams performed all of the tunes for this marvelous creation.
