An Article On Modest Islamic Clothing

By Daphne Bowen

The religion of Islam is greatly associated with the respect of oneself and a lot of modesty. This is mostly seen in the way in which they dress. There are several standards set on the type of clothing one should put on and this varies across the Muslim world in terms of design and colour. The following are details on modest Islamic clothing.

There are several requirements which must be met for both Islamic men and women. To start with, according to their holy teachings, they believe that women are supposed to cover their entire body. The only parts which should be left out are the hands and face which explains the long robes worn by these women and their thick texture to prevent visibility.

Secondly, the rules strictly forbid tight clothes. These are those which expose the general outline of the body. This is considered wrong because it will attract the wrong type of attention. Individuals are supposed to wear loose fitting clothes which cover their whole body and this applies to both for men and women.

One of the major challenges faced by the Islam community is the ability to remain true to their religion in a world which is changing at a very fast rate. New fashions are coming up with each new day and sometimes temptations may creep in. They are however encouraged to be strong and remain loyal to their faith oblivious of what goes on around them. Both men and women are also advised to stick to their own clothes and this usually is why men are forbidden from wearing gold and silk because they are considered to be feminine.

There are no many shops to access these clothes in the non-Muslim countries. Most people purchase theirs when they go home visiting in the Muslim countries. Also, due to the fact that these designs are not complicated, some sew their clothes just in the comfort of their homes. Online shopping is also coming up as an alternative especially to those who find it hard to travel or sew one of their own.

Another factor to consider is the habit of putting on flashy clothes. Most Muslims do not like the type of designs and colours which draw attention to them. They mostly opt for more cool colours such as blue, brown, black, among others. This is also another means of ensuring humility.

Majority of people wonder whether individuals from this religion are extremely comfortable with what they wear. This is due to the fact that Muslims, especially women, are usually all covered up even under the hot scorching sun. They would be amazed to find out that these people are usually adapted to this hence it's not a big issue to them. In addition to that, the clothes are usually loose fitting meaning that they allow a lot of fresh air to flow in.

In summary of the above, Islam has set minimum standards for personal decency, which is reflected in the manner in which they dress. While this may appear to be very conservative and out of date for some people, for this community it is nothing but total pride. They consider this tradition to be quite epic and timeless.
