Those who have spent time in serving the people by being part of his church has been noted to admit that they feel themselves growing spiritually because of the work that they do. Few individuals want this and feel that they were called to serve such purpose. However, doing so requires a considerable amount of time to think and reconsider.

There are several things that is required before one becomes a Catholic priest, and that includes being Catholic, of course. Educational background and the spirituality of the person is also taken into consideration for evaluation. If you have seen the Roman Catholic priest calendar and you feel that you want to be one of the men featured, check out the requirements below.

One of the few things that is required is for you to obtain a bachelors or college degree. One has to go to school and take any program or course that can be related to religious studies easily like communications, history, philosophy, or religions among others. You can choose to go to a university or a seminary where they also formally educate men who would like to be priests.

While being in college, one may also want to ask for guidance from priests or other church leaders in order to enlighten you regarding the career you plan on taking. Aside from that, they may also provide you with needed spiritual advice. They will also help you be involved in activities that shall be helpful in your venture to priesthood.

Becoming an active participant in church and their activities will also help you better understand the life that they lead. It may be vital for you to do so as this will increase your awareness about the religious life as well as get you used to such activities that you may encounter in the future. Things as simple as joining the church choir can be one step.

Afterwards, one can be a candidate. Utilize this candidacy for contemplation and reflection on the journey you shall be taking and whether you shall be able to handle it or not. This will help you decide to either continue or stop the journey as early as that moment.

Then, you will need to go to seminary where you shall be presented with graduate level work. It is almost just like college, except, the work and study that you need to do is more specific, for instance, preaching, liturgy, and pastoral ethics, among many others. Attending college may also heighten your chances of finishing seminary earlier than usual.

After that, you shall be called by the Bishop or any other religious leader to be ordained and granted the sacrament of Holy Order. They may do this during a holy mass or other special ceremony that they would conduct. After such ceremonies, you will be assigned to a parish or place where you will most like be serving or practicing the religious life for six months or so.

If you endure, you will be off to priesthood in no time. But as with other jobs, there are different practices for priesthood which you shall know about once you enter seminary. The decision of whether or not you will want to be a priest shall be clear to you during your time in the seminary.
