Information On The Various Kinds Of DJs

By Kimberly Graham

The term disc jockey is often abbreviated as DJ. Deejay and D. J are the other term and abbreviation used respectively. These professionals specialize in mixing and playing recorded music to audiences over the radio or live. The use of the term was initially limited to gramophone records. However, it has evolved ever since to include all types of digital as well as analogue music sources. Some of the best DJs in the United States are located in Naples, FL.

Deejays are of many types. Some of them include mobile/wedding deejays, performer/guest deejays, radio deejays, and club/bar deejays. Deejays usually specialize in certain music genres and audiences. However, audiences tend to overlap, which makes them not rigid. Mixes that deejays created are at times recorded so that they are distributed or sold later.

The concept of DJ started on the radio. The role of radio deejay is to introduce, mix, and play music to audiences over internet, FM, digital, and AM radio stations. These deejays also get involved in promoting artists and artistic works. Radio stations often favor certain music genres to appeal to their crowds. That leads to some genres being promoted more than others.

Bar or club deejays mostly work at night to mix and play music to audiences in clubs, bars and similar venues. To capture the audience, it is important to understand its interests. That is why clubs are specific in the kind of music they play to people. A good deejay should be able to keep people dancing the whole night. These deejays also work in stadiums, discotheques, and at parties.

Mobile or wedding deejays travel from place to place with a portable sound system to play recorded music in various events. To be successful as a mobile DJ, one needs to be comfortable with taking requests from the audience. Sometimes one may have the entire playlist they came with replaced with a different one. One needs to be prepared with different playlists to suit different events.

Mobile deejays at times act as MCs in the events they preside over. They use public address systems to talk to people at the events and make various announcements. They know the events of the day, and so they direct the audience as necessary. They may introduce guests and make announcements on behalf of various people in the audience. They talk while playing music at the same time. Oral communication skills are needed to increase chance of success in this sub-field.

Modern deejays make use of a wide variety of equipment in their business. Some powerful systems have comes up as a result of technological developments, making life more convenient and easier for deejays. Equipment used by deejays is often able to simultaneously play music from multiple sources.

Mixing is made possible by the ability to play music simultaneously from multiple sources. One can also switch seamlessly between different recordings. There are many pieces of equipment one needs to learn how to use, and that may take some time to become efficient at.
